Cobb Nimble, a freckle-faced boy aged twelve summers, is 'the lowest form of life'... well, that's according to his older sister, Dash.

On the eve of their grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary, the squabbling siblings are to travel together to the Westmere town of Woodcroft and fetch a list of items for the looming family shindig.

The rules they are to abide by are simple: Dash is not to attract attention of any loitering boys, Cobb is not to pick his nose and whilst they are permitted to feed the squirrels, they are told clearly, "Don't feed the ferrets."
