Amidst a violent storm, a homeless girl enters the coach stop in the village of Duskwood; and here, on the eve of Midwinter's Day, she seeks sanctuary.

Curled on an armchair within the waiting room, the youngster reminisces about the previous summer where she worked on a cherry farm and enjoyed what many others take for granted: home-cooked meals, comfy surroundings, and the warm sense of belonging.

During her tenture at the farm she was loved by all and earned the nickname Cherry Pie, but abruptly departed the night before her time at the premises was due to end.
